SGFOA Memorial Fund
Formerly the Johnny Hill Scholarship, the SGFOA, created this fund in memory of its founders and past members that had a significant impact in the Southwest Florida community in addition to officiating. SGFOA members voluntarily donate money to the fund through game fees and one time donations.
Every year the SGFOA awards a one time $500.00 scholarship to a deserving senior from one of the football programs served by the SGFOA. This senior student has demonstrated team spirit as well as good sportsmanship and has a need for financial assistance with their first year college expenses.
The 2008-2009 recipient of the SGFOA Memorial Fund was Sakariye Yonis from Mariner High School. He will be attending Florida Gulf Coast University this fall.
In addition to the scholarship, the SGFOA makes several donations each year to local and national organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and The Children's Cancer Center of Southwest Florida.
This fall the SGFOA will donate a Wii gaming system and a HDTV to the Southwest Florida Children's Cancer Center at Healthpark. Hopefully, this will provide some fun and entertainment for all of the wonderful children during they're stay at Healthpark.
All this is made possible by donations directly from SGFOA members.
